Overview

The CANbus Load Equalizer was designed specifically for use with our Universal Magic Strobes Brake Light Flasher, however it will work in many situations where you have modified or replaced the OEM tail light on a CANbus or Cruise Control Equipped motorcycle.

The CANbus Load Equalizer adds 2 Watts of load to the brake light circuit, which restores cruise control function and eliminates CANbus issues (bulb out, and more) when installing a brake light modulator in-line with the tail light, or replacing the OEM tail light with aftermarket products.

We have tested this device in conjunction with the installation of our Brake Light Flasher on late-model Harley and Victory motorcycles equipped with CANbus and Cruise Control, and found that the CANBus and Cruise Control function was restored in each case.

CANbus Load Equalizer

I installed the Custom Dynamics break light flasher and was advised to install a canbus load equalizer. This was to prevent any problems with the cruise control. It was easy and fast to install and now I have no issues with the cruise control.

Hello I installed a rear LED bulb on My 2018 BMW R nineT Urban GS and getting a warning signal on my dash. Will your CANBUS LOAD EQUALIZER fix the problem and eliminate the warning signal? Thanks

Hello Eli, thank you for your interest in our products! Generally speaking, the correct way to use load equalizers is to first determine the amount of load that is "missing" or that the system is expecting to see as a minimum. Can you tell me where you installed this LED bulb? Is it in the brake light? What is the wattage of the OEM bulb? Is your tail light a 2-wire or 3-wire setup? What exactly does the warning say: brake light, or tail light error?

2010 BMW R1200RT I am wondering if this will ADD a couple of watts to compensate for the additional load a flasher adds to a regular incandescent brakelight draws. I have a brake light flasher that works, but now the single filament doesn't work as a running light, throws a bulb code but flashes when I hit the brakes. If this adds LOAD then it will actually be even worse won't it?

Hello Don,

Is your OEM tail light a 2-wire system? Meaning a power wire and a ground wire? If this is the case, no amount of load equalization will help because the tail light is not designed to be modulated by anything other than the OEM computer to control the brightness.

I switched my 2008 harley Davidson nightster to led now I'm having light issues so my Harley guy said I need some load equalizers not will these work for my 2008 Harley Davidson Nightster now that I have LED lights just want to make sure

Hi Jimmy, the correct way to utilize a Load Equalizer is to match the power draw of the OEM turn signals with the power draw of a properly designed Load Equalizer. With incandescent bulbs, this is an easy task. The wattage of incandescent bulbs is clearly specified so it can be easily matched. If your OEM bulbs are incandescent, you need to figure out the wattage and match that to a Load Equalizer. The CanBus load equalizer is not designed for turn signal lamp issues. You need to choose between our 2W, 10W, or 25W Load Equalizers for this purpose. I don't see any mention of using this product with a BMW motorcycle. Will this allow me to add additional LED lights as a second brake light? Thank you.

Hello Chris, and thank you for your interest in our products. Generally speaking, Load Equalizers are used when you have reduced to the total amount of power draw on the motorcycle, and the computer throws an error code as a result. The Load Equalizers are used to return that power draw to the circuit to satisfy the computer.

In your case, it sounds like you are adding auxiliary brake lights and keeping the OEM brake light as-is. In this case, you should not need a load equalizer. In the event that you do exceed the maximum permissible current draw on the brake light circuit, you will then need to use a relay to power the lamp. But if you are going with an LED lamp, you should not have this problem.
